WORK PACKAGE 1

MAP

Variations in indoor air quality and heat in educational settings.

What We Will Do

Collect information on indoor and outdoor air quality from 100 schools to create the largest dataset of its kind.

Carry out detailed air quality studies in 20 schools, looking at factors such as air pollutants, temperature and humidity.

Understand how air quality and heat levels vary between schools across the country.

Develop measures that can be used in future research to study how school environments affect children's health.

How We Will Do It

Install simple WiFi-connected monitors in 100 schools to measure air quality, temperature, humidity, and ventilation throughout the day.

Conduct more detailed assessments in 20 schools, following internationally recognised health and air quality standards.

Use the data collected, along with information about school buildings, to estimate air quality and heat exposure in all 65,000 schools in England.

Work with schools and other partners to create interactive maps that show levels of air quality and heat exposure, helping people understand where improvements are needed.

Why This Matters

By understanding the air children breathe and the temperatures they experience at school, CHILI will help identify ways to create healthier, safer, and more comfortable learning environments for children across England.
